Walking down into the Lake Eaton Sinkhole

With the addition of a restroom during boardwalk renovations last fall, the Lake Eaton Trails are even more of a draw than ever before.

Two trails radiate from this trailhead off SR 316 in the Ocala National Forest – the Lake Eaton Trail, which loops down to the lake and back through the scrub, and the Lake Eaton Sinkhole Trail, which showcases the big sinkhole that punches through the scrub to create a cool cradle for a hardwood forest.

Before the temps get too high and the creepy-crawlies start crawling in earnest, take a peek inside one of Florida’s largest sinkholes at Lake Eaton.
